Why Sora output needs upscaling

  • If you still have Sora exports in a library or pipeline, treat them as finite masters: get the highest-resolution files off the platform while you can, then finish delivery locally.
  • Generated clips are typically delivered at 720p-1080p depending on plan and settings - fine for a feed preview, soft on a TV, projector, or client deliverable.
  • Diffusion-based generation tends to produce smeared micro-texture (skin, fabric, foliage) and slightly mushy edges that become obvious once the clip is scaled up by a player.
  • Fine on-screen text and logos often come out garbled or soft - upscaling with a detail-reconstruction model tightens edges without inventing new artifacts.

Is Sora still available to generate new clips?

OpenAI discontinued the Sora consumer app and web experience in April 2026, and has publicly listed the Sora Videos API for removal (reported date September 24, 2026 - always verify OpenAI's current deprecations page). If you already exported masters, keep them; KwaFlux can still upscale those files locally. For new generations, most creators move to alternatives such as Kling or Veo, then finish with local upscaling.

What resolution does Sora output?

It depends on your plan and generation settings, but delivered clips are typically in the 720p-1080p range - below what a 4K timeline or large display expects. Check the actual file properties of your export, then upscale to the delivery size you need.

Will upscaling fix Sora's smearing and warping artifacts?

Upscaling reconstructs resolution and edge detail; it sharpens smeared texture noticeably but cannot re-generate content - warped geometry or morphing objects are generation-level issues. For those, pick your best take and upscale that.

Can I upscale a whole batch of generations at once?
