Modern enhancement models are trained mostly on digital compression artifacts. Analog-era footage fails differently: interlacing, chroma bleed, tape dropouts, film grain, and fading. Running a generic enhancer on interlaced video, for example, often sharpens the comb artifacts instead of removing them. The right order matters — deinterlace first, then denoise, then reconstruct detail, then optionally colorize.

Restoration recovers what is latent in the source — it cannot reconstruct frames that are physically destroyed or detail below the noise floor. Severely damaged sections will improve but keep some character of their age. Yes. The colorization model infers plausible colors per scene — skin, sky, foliage, and materials — rather than applying a single tint. Results look natural on most footage, though exact historical colors cannot be guaranteed.
Interlaced video stores alternating half-frames, which shows comb-teeth artifacts on modern displays. If your source came from a camcorder, VHS, or broadcast recording, you almost certainly want the deinterlacing pass first — Kwaflux offers two modes depending on source quality.
The film-grain model is trained to separate noise patterns from image structure, so texture like fabric and foliage survives. For very heavy grain you can preview both strength settings and choose the trade-off yourself.
That is a different problem — file corruption rather than image quality. Kwaflux includes separate file repair modules for video, image, and audio files that won't open; restoration described here applies to files that play but look degraded.
