First, diagnose the blur

Blur is a symptom with four common causes — mismatching cause to fix wastes hours:

  • Low resolution: recorded/exported small (480p/720p); edges look uniformly mushy when displayed large.
  • Compression damage: aggressive encodes (messaging apps, old exports); blockiness and smeared detail, worst around motion.
  • Soft focus: subject soft while other planes may stay sharp.
  • Motion blur: directional streaking from movement during exposure.

Check a paused frame at 100% zoom: uniform softness → resolution/compression; plane-specific softness → focus; directional streaks → motion. Most real-world blurry clips are the first two — those respond best to reconstruction.

Method 1 — Sharpening in your editor (free, limited)

Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and CapCut all ship an unsharp-mask style filter. It raises contrast along existing edges, which reads as "sharper" for mild softness.

Modern TVs and some players apply their own upscaling and sharpening on playback. It costs nothing and can make 1080p look decent on a 4K panel.

The limits: it only affects that screen (the file itself is unchanged, so nothing improves for the people you send it to), you have no control over the processing, and cheap panel sharpening often adds ringing artifacts. Fine for casual viewing; irrelevant for delivery.

Method 3 — Online AI tools (convenient, metered)

Method 5 — Re-record or re-export (when the source still exists)
