How to repair a corrupted video file that will not play

Video File Repair diagnoses unplayable MP4s locally. Auto, Quick, Deep, and Smart modes — plus an optional same-camera reference. Not an enhancer.

The short answer

Video File Repair is for clips that will not play or that abort mid-file. Copy the original, import, pick Auto / Quick / Deep / Smart, optionally attach a healthy same-camera file, then Start Diagnosis. This is not AI Video Quality Repair. Download keeps the job on disk.

When file repair is the right first step

  • The player errors out, or the timeline dies halfway
  • The container looks intact but the index is gone
  • You still have a copy you can import — this is not disk forensics

What diagnosis cannot do

  • Recover a formatted drive or a zero-byte file
  • Invent frames that were never written
  • Replace quality repair, denoise, or upscale once the file already plays

How to run a diagnosis

  1. Copy the damaged file. Never overwrite the only original.
  2. Import it, start with Auto, attach a reference if you have one
  3. If it plays, enhance next. If not, try Deep/Smart or keep the copy for another tool

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as restoring old footage?

No. File repair tries to make a broken file playable. Restore old video is for grain, fade, and archival damage on files that already play.

Do I need a reference file?

No. It is optional. A healthy clip from the same camera can help the diagnoser guess structure.
