How to replace an object in video with local AI

SAM2 click-to-track lets you mark a prop or vehicle and swap its plate — transparent, solid, gallery, or blur — without uploading the clip.

The short answer

Object Replace is the current desktop workbench for non-person subjects. Click the target, SAM2 tracks it, then you pick transparent, solid, gallery, or blur. No media upload. Preview after download; export on pricing.

When object replace beats person replace

  • The subject is a bottle, sign, car, or other prop — not a portrait
  • You want a click-to-track mask, not a person-tuned body matte
  • You need an alpha or a simple plate swap without After Effects

What still needs a compositor

  • Heavy occlusion, motion blur, or a target that looks like the background
  • Multi-layer VFX or a tracked camera move
  • You need a ProRes 4444 / PNG sequence for someone else's graph

How to run the workbench

  1. Import the clip and click the object you want to isolate
  2. Pick transparent, solid, gallery, or blur; preview 1s/3s/5s on a hard frame
  3. Export locally, or send the composite through Video Converter

Frequently asked questions

Does SAM2 upload my video?

No. Tracking and compositing run on your machine. KwaFlux does not upload the clip to finish a preview or export.

Should I use person replace instead?

If the subject is a person, yes — that path is tuned for portraits. Object replace is for everything else you can click.
