How to stabilize shaky video with AI (and when crop hurts)

Strength vs crop, rolling shutter caveats, and local preview before you export.

Stabilization always spends pixels

Every stabilizer crops or warps the frame to cancel motion. Stronger smooth usually means more edge loss. Honest tools expose that trade-off instead of hiding it behind a single magic button.

Strength vs crop

Stronger lock crops more of the frame edges. Preview before you lock export.

Stabilization strength vs frame crop

More lock → tighter usable frame. Preview before full export.

  1. 01

    Light · low crop

  2. 02

    Standard

  3. 03

    Max · more crop

Higher smooth usually spends more edge pixels — preview before you lock export.

A practical local pass

  1. Pick a representative shaky segment (walking talk, vehicle, run)
  2. Try a medium strength first in video stabilization
  3. Check edges and verticals — over-smooth looks floaty
  4. Combine with AI Video Enhancer only after motion is acceptable

KwaFlux previews 1s/3s/5s locally so you can reject a strength that eats too much framing before you burn a full export.

When stabilization will not save the take

Rolling shutter jello, extreme whip pans, and missing frames need a reshoot or a different edit. Stabilization is for recoverable handshake — not for rewriting physics.

Frequently asked questions

Does AI stabilization upload my video?

Not with a local tool. KwaFlux stabilizes on your GPU without uploading the file.

Why does my stabilized clip look zoomed in?

Stabilization crops the frame to keep a steady region. Higher strengths crop more — dial back until the framing is acceptable.
